Morristown High School Boys Basketball Preview - Morristown NJ News -
MORRISTOWN – After a long nine month wait, the 109th season of Morristown High School basketball is about to get underway at the end of this week. Led by returning starter and senior captain Steve Leung, the Colonials will feature a new look lineup after having graduated 92 percent of its offense following last winter’s 18-9 campaign. Morristown—which has an all-time program record of 1,430-921 entering Friday night’s season opener against Bard. “We had a very good off season, a lot of guys coming up from the younger levels. They got used to the expectations of what we do during the off season and how we handle things during he season,” said Morristown coach Bill Connolly, who will enter his seventh season at the county seat. Another early season storyline to watch will be an upcoming milestone for Connolly himself. Connolly—who played a hand in Mendham’s Morris County Tournament peat from 2008-11 as an assistant under Jim Baglin—takes a sparkling 97-54 record at the helm of Morristown into the winter. Connolly is currently tied with Muzz Lindsley—who guided the Colonials from 1984-90—for forth on the all-time wins list at Morristown at 97. Leung is Morristown’s returning point-getter, having averaged 4.9 per game in a starting role this year. As a captain, Leung is looking forward to playing a leadership role this year. “I don’t care how many points I score in a game, everything is team first,” Leung said. “As long as we have more points than whoever we play that night, I’m happy with what I do.” Leung is one of only three seniors on the Morristown roster, with their others being guards Brendan Pallatta and Declan Doherty. Junior guard Duncan Wild—who saw bits and pieces of varsity action last winter—is junior that will look to play a big role for Morristown, as will Liam Marcato in the backcourt. Timmy Ganning and Andy Dominguez are also junior guards that will see serious varsity minutes. In the front court, junior Steve Bergeman, along with a quartet of sophomores: Ray Mundrick, Pat Montfort, Kahleb Hicks, and Justin Barrett will make up one of the youngest forward lines in the area.
