Physical Education “Opt-Out” for Sports and Physical Activities
Morristown High School offers students the opportunity to “Opt-Out” of Physical Education if they participate in a school sport or other approved activity. The purpose of this Opt-Out program is to provide athletes with the opportunity to devote more time to academic study while their sport is in season. Physical Education Opt-Out is provided with specific guidelines and dates and it is extremely important that all deadlines are met. Forms must be turned in no later than the last day of the enrollment period in order to be considered. Upon submission of the application along with athletic department verification of participation, any students who choose to Opt-Out of PE will be scheduled for a study hall where they are expected to focus on academics. Students requesting to Opt-Out of Physical Education for outside activities, also referred to as Option II, will be considered on a case-by-case basis after the appropriate application is approved by the Supervisor of Health and P.E.
Strength and Conditioning program for MHS out of season athletes.
Morristown High School Athletes will now be eligible to participate in an Off-Season Training program with our Strength and Conditioning Coach. This program will be very limited in size and will not be able to accept every MHS athlete. The student must fill out the MHS Athlete application and meet with Mr. Horton for final approval and Workout log information. This is being done on a first-come/first-serve basis. The student-athlete must be in attendance and actively participating for a minimum of 150 minutes per week. Athletes not complying with the state guideline will be removed immediately to make room for another student that will. This program will not be available to seniors that have already participated in his or her sport.
