MORRISTOWN, NJ - Morristown’s boys and girls fencing teams had very little trouble with visiting Bayonne on Friday evening.
The Bees—who have forever been a basketball kingdom of Hudson County during the winter—are not known for its fencing prowess, and they proved to be no match for the Colonials. The Maroon & White boys and girls teams each took home an 18-9 victory when all was said and done.
On the girls side, the sophomore duo of
Eleanor Meli and
Lauren Peng swept a pair of matches apiece to lead the way in the Sabre weapon duals.
Sydney Mihalik, another one of Morristown’s varsity sophomores, also swept her two matches on the Epee card.
Senior Mary Prachtauser recorded a shutout victory in the Sabre, while Samantha Hessels and Audra Stowers also blanked their opponents in the Foil slate.
Balance was the name of the game on the boys side, as 17 different fencers accounted for Morristown’s 18 team points.
Junior Sabre fencer Alex Nulman was the only Colonial that picked up two victories, and did so in as many tries.
Thomas Anderson and Jared Koeningsberg also added shutout victories in the Sabre. Perfect matches in the Foil were won by Ean Weiss, Jonathan Nulman, and Alexander King, while senior Matthew Suchman did the same in the Foil
